GALLIPOLI TOUR FROM ISTANBUL
On April 25, 1915, ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) troops began their land campaign and landed on Gallipoli peninsula at seven different locations. This followed the defeat of British and French forces in a naval campaign in the Çanakkale (the Dardanelles or the straits leading to Istanbul) on March 18, 1915. Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives during the landing and the war have been commemorated annually since 1934 on “ANZAC Day” with official ceremonies. Thousands of Australians and New Zealanders come to Çanakkale to participate in these ceremonies that start at 5:30 AM on April 25th at ANZAC Cove.
